I ended up choosing Cheaper by the Dozen, Sarah Plain and Tall, Where the Red Fern Grows, and David Copperfield.

Some that we have enjoyed in the past are  Five Little Peppers, All of a Kind of  Family, Endurance, Robinson Crusoe, The Story of the Treasure Seekers, Captains Courageous, The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, The Call of the Wild, Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, and the Prince and the Pauper.
