Ok so last year we used Seton (Catholic in nature) art curriculum and it included learning about some of the following: lines, contour, basic shapes, texture, symbols, color wheel, color value, harmony and contrast, dimension, symmetry, balance, patter, & center of interest.

I liked the way it flowed and how it was all laid out for me.  I didn’t really need anything I didn’t have on hand-paper, pencil, scissors, crayons and colored paper.

I would continue with the program but it now goes into what SCM would refer to as picture study and we do that already seperately.

I looked at How Great thou Art and THOUGHT this would be a good fit for us.  But after ordering it I knew it would not.  To labor intense, and we don’t have 2-3 hours a week to do it.

Any recommendations that you could offer would be great.  I want to continue to build off of what we have been working on.  I need something that we can do once a week for maybe 30-45 minutes.  I would like it to be all laid out for the teacher and not need a lot of things i have to go out and buy specially for the program.  I would like something that works on learning to draw, but goes into more detail than just going to the library and picking out a how to draw book.

I have seen Art with a Purpose and wonder if this might be a better fit?  It does fit the area’s I want to keep but I don’t know if it in the upper levels deals with drawing?   I would appreicate any thoughts or advice.

The first book for grades 4-6 teaches drawing.

The price is spendy.  But it looks like a BIG book.

Can you explain the different books?  Which level would I start with with a group of kids ranging from 9, 11, 13, 14 but all beginners?  The younger ones can just do there best as they can so I am not worried about them.

We started with book one since my oldest is in 1st grade, sorry not a lot of help.

I would email them directly if you have questions. I met with them last summer at the state conference and emailed with more questions and they were very helpful

I bet you could start with book 1 for grades 4-6 for your ages. It is written to the DC Sotheby’s could read and do n their own. Think it requires just basic drawing supplies, not clay, paint, etc. don’t quote me on that though! Check their website for the most accurate description. Lol

Actually maybe you could se the jr high book 1. It says for ages 11 and up so that would leave just your 9yo. Perhaps some draw and write through history books for the 9yo?

There are a couple of the Jr. High books from Artistic Pursuits listed on homeschoolclassifieds.com. At least as of today, 5/13/13.
