I have used it twice and like it.  It’s not necessarily overwhelmingly CM, but what I like about it is it breaks down writing essays into small, nonthreatening steps.  It was just what my two reluctant writers needed.  I plan on using it with my third son next year too.  If your child can do written narrations OK and is ready for essays, it’s an easy intro to essay form.  There are lessons on writing poems and a short story, but I confess I don’t use those.  I just use the different essay lessons.

At what age did you begin “Jump In” w/ your reluctant writer(s)?

One son was 8th grade (because the book just came out then) and one was seventh.  I plan on my next-year’s 7th grader beginning it sometime next year, when I feel completely comfortable with his written narrations.
