I was wondering if Netflicks was a good resource to use to get videos that are needed in the SCM guide? Is it hard to find what you need? It is hard to get what you need when you need it? Are there any other similar dvd rental programs that are better? They are offering us a free trial and I was wondering if it was worth it.

We have netflix and love it. Now as far as  the videos mentioned on the SCM guide I have no idea, I hadn’t even thought about checking there first (I will now), but I have a friend who enjoys unit studies and has found that netflix has more of a selection, than say, Blockbuster Online or Hollywood Video, for Civil War documentaries, etc. for her kids. It is super cheap and you really don’t have to worry about late fees and you do receive your videos within a day or two of when you mailed the last one.  HTH

I did look for the Moody videos that are recommended/optional for 106 Days but didn’t find any (not completely surprised:), but they do have alot of science videos. I haven’t watched any of those so I couldn’t give you a review, but there were quite a few to choose from.

Now, for history you might have better luck, maybe even for composers, biographies, things like that.  HTH

Thank you! I didn’t even think about composers! I think I will try the trial and see what I can find. Thank you for your help!

I won’t pretend to know how it works, but we have a wii and my son ordered a disc that allows us to use the wii in conjunction with Netflix and watch lots of ‘watch it now’ movies. There are lots of great documentaries available. You do need to have a subscription to Netflix and so we just use the one movie at a time deal.

I do not know if these are the same Moody science ones listed under 106 Days or not… but they do have the Moody’s Wonder’s of God’s Creation series at Netflix.  We’ve watched all of them.  They are great!  At Netflix they are listed under Wonder of God’s Creation, not Moody’s.

You know I did see that you can order The power of Plants and Treasure Hunt together from Rainbow Resources for only $5.95.  They probalby have the others that you need there too.  May be worth just buying them if you can.

Thank you havefaith.  I hadn’t looked there for these videos and would have never known what they were listed under:)  I did purchase several of our’s but I probably would’ve rented them through netflix  if I had thought about that first.  I have 2 younger boys who will enjoy them in the future so that’s fine, but they are VHS (only vcr right now is in 8yo room and it’s 13′” screen, ugh). I would have much rather had the dvd version (livingroom tv is much better) and not purchased if I had known netflix had them:) Oh well, live and learn…

For other’s searching for them, it is a great resource, especially if you don’t want to store them in your home:)

If you visit Library and Educational Services, that is by far, the best price on DVD’s. The Moody DVD”s are at the best price there; the combo of Power of plants/Treasure HUnt is 4.94, as are the other 2 Children’s Adventure ones. Also, Newton’s Workshop is there and the regular Moody videos. Right now, they’re having a special, $1.95 s/h on orders $50.00 or more.

Netflix also carries the Icons of Evolution, Wonder of Creation and a few other Creation based selections, as we lll as great history resources (inc. Liberty’s KIds right to the computer) and great, wholesome old movies and TV series that can’t be found anywhere else.

Thanks ya’ll! I will check out the Library and educational services. I was browsing the Netflix selection and found the Mr Ed seasons on DVD! I used to love that show!  I am seriously considering canceling the cable and just using Netflix for watching tv! You can get tv seasons on Netflix. And as you said Rachel, you can get older movies that are more wholesome.

I don’t know about SM videos. I do have in my queue though

    The story of Amy Carmichael

    and

Glory to God – The story of Bach

    That look really good.

    Also I just added

    C.H. Spurgeon: The People’s Preacher

It isn’t released yet. So it just gets saved to saved DVDs. If enough people request it, they will buy it. So add to your queue too :o)
