Anyone use Language Lessons for the Highschool student with Jensen's Format Writing?

My son is going in to 11th grade and I’m desperately trying to fill in the gaps left from public school.  I have decided to use Language Lessons for the Highschool student to help with that.  I do however own Jensen’s (Wordsmith) Format Writing and would like to know if anyone has used either and if so, have you used them together?  I really dont want to give him too much as he may get discouraged.
