We’re so happy to be able to announce the release of Ancient Egypt and Her Neighbors! This is our recommended replacement for the out-of-print Oxford First Ancient History in the Genesis through Deuteronomy & Ancient Egypt module. It is so much better than the Oxford book! More about other ancient civilizations that were existing alongside Egypt; no evolutionary junk to wade through; written in a living narrative by Lorene Lambert, the author of one of our award-winning Stories of the Nations books.

Plus, it will be easy to substitute it into the lesson plans. Here are the details for a simple lesson-by-lesson switch.

Download the sample chapters and let us know what you think!

YAY! Can’t wait for this to arrive in my mailbox! You have made my day! Laughing BTW… the link isn’t working right for me.

Yes, the Lesson by Lesson switch page isn’t working. The book, however, looks great!

This looks wonderful and certainly a better price, but maybe I missed all the dialogue about this replacement. I’m using SCM for the first time this year, and I’m in Module 1. I searched forever for the Oxford book and finally found it for $140. This one is better and cheaper? I’m a little frustrated. I was hoping to use it through Mod 3.

Sonya, the link works now. Wonderful! I own the Oxford, but prefer this one. I’m guessing that perhaps replacements are in the works for Modules 2 & 3? That could alleviate melindab72’s concerns.

Good questions. Here’s the scoop on the full scope of modules 1-3 and the Oxford book.

If you haven’t been able to find the Oxford book, or don’t want to use it, you can follow these suggestions instead.

Module 1: Ancient Egypt and Her Neighbors can easily be popped into the plans.

Module 2: The Oxford book is used only for Grades 7-9, and we found two other books that will work well as a replacement for those lessons and that age group. Details are at the top of the Links & Tips page for that handbook.

Module 3: We’re recommending that you replace the Oxford book’s readings with biographies of early church fathers, such as those found in Trial and Triumph or Peace and Peril.

We will be revising the handbooks for modules 1-3 to reflect these changes; however, we will continue to have the current editions of the handbooks available for those who have Oxford and want to use it.

If you already have Oxford and want to use it, you can simply follow the lessons in the handbooks as they are now.

    Does that help clarify things?

I see the book on sale from $14.95 to $12.95 but what is on sale from $9.95 to $8.95. And although I have the Oxford book, and didn’t pay too much for it, I would definitely consider buying this book. Thank you for making it available to us!

Nevermind, I read the other thread. Thanks!

The price difference reflects whether you get the e-book or the printed book.

Printed is usually $14.95, on sale for $12.95.

E-book is usually $9.95, on sale for $8.95.

Use the little pull-down menu to switch between e-book or printed book.

So very exciting! I was just thinking last night how I don’t love Oxford. You have fabulous timing, and I am excited to learn about other cultures at the same time.

Thank you, SCM, for meeting our needs so beautifully!!

This is great news! Although I also picked up the Oxford books at a decent price and planned to use them this fall for seventh grade (module one), I would still be interested In buying Ancient Egypt. I am wondering if it will be too young for a 7th grader. I’ll check out the free download but any input would be great too.

I just finished reading aloud chapter one. We enjoyed tracing the Nile from Lake Victoria to the Nile Delta. Thank you for this engaging book.

Can a person read this on the Kindle/Kindle Fire or iPad?  I like the idea of the color pictures and the printed book is black and white.  I haven’t done any PDFs on any of our devices so wanted to make sure they’d be readable before purchasing.
