For those who have used Grammar Revolution, what have you used or do you plan to use after you are done?

bump … trying to decide what to do next year to keep things fresh and remembered for a student who needs grammar repetition.  She will be grade 10 next year.

I’ve never used Grammar Revolution, but Loving Grammar: Mr. Lund’s Guide to Professional Clam-digging is a good, one year grammar program.  His website is lovinggrammar.com.  I found a copy used on thriftbooks.com for a really good price.

We used Grammar Revolution last year and really liked it. My kids are younger so we are doing Fix It this year, short and to the point lessons, but grammar is one place I can’t quite ever decide on. I feel like the best way to master is simply put into practice through writing, written narration and other writing, but then I keep thinking I “need” something grammar specific, hence doing FixIt, but also wondering if we really need to do it. The back and forth of a homeschool teacher, haha.

In 10th grade I think I would just be working on good writing skills and putting all the grammar knowledge into practice but not a grammar specific program.

Your student is also older getting closer to ACT or SAT and if those are coming up on the horizon I would explore grammar and English helps/curriculum geared toward that while still continuing writing skills and grammar through writing. Grammar Revolution also offers practice books to keep up on skills, which is another option, doing just a couple times a week.

Not sure if that helps though. I am not sure why, but writing and grammar are always my back and forth struggle of balancing goals and not getting caught up in what others are doing (because what they are doing is often great too). 🙂

    Thank you

I had forgotten about the Stay Smart books.  I am not wanting a complete program to reteach, but to keep the concepts reviewed and remembered.  As stated, the SAT and ACT are not too far in our future.  I am now quaking in my slippers to think about that!!

I think I will use the Stay Smart book a couple times a week and maybe it will last 2 years.  Then her senior year keep up a review with Queen’s High School Grammar … or maybe start over with the Stay Smart book, it will be review and she isn’t likely to remember the exact page from 2 years previous!

missceegee, why did you choose to use another grammar instructional program after Get Smart?  Did you find that being instructed again was necessary or did you just find that the program provided good review?
