My 9yr old boy has Sensory Processing Disorder and some of what you are describing is the same with him.  If it requires fine motor skills like using pencils, scissors, etc. he balks at it or his hands get tired easily.  He lacks concentration in some areas, cannot “see” some things (like if he is looking for one thing in a big pile of other things).  He is sensitive to light, noise, transitions, food and clothing textures.  He has had occupational and physical therapy and things improve.  Taking him out of school helped immensely.  Some things are improving with age.  It is an ongoing process.

I try to do very short (5min) lessons with things he has trouble with but I am consistent with them at least 5x a week and hopefully with time he will gain concentration and fine motor skills.  It is tiring but necessary. Perhaps looking into something like this with your doctor may help.

Sheraz this is all very good advice! I am all about food and eating right. A lot of people have allergies to the foods they ingest daily yet they don’t even know it. And when we eat like this we only run on half of our energy…i never knew this until i tried to est clean. I did the Paleo Diet (Hate calling it that because it is more a way of life, a choice to be healthy) for 40 days and never felt better. I was alert, focused, full of energy slept, better, and when i got off of it…i had all sorts of isshues. Bowel, can’t focus, cloudy brain, fatigue, can’t sleep so well, stomach aches…etc. Paleo way of life is a clean way of eating, much like Shiraz describes in her posts. (: I am going back to the basics again…PALEO!

@martajoy:  Thanks for the link to the Paleo diet site.  While I don’t agree with their homepage statements that would affirm evolutionary theory (our family believes in and teaches creationism and ‘young earth’), I do see a lot of valid, helpful information there.  This type of diet had been recommended by my autistic son’s behavioral psychologist, and the article I read on this site regarding ‘leaky gut’ and its link to autism really hits home.

I had tried to look up information before on this type of diet but had not found anything as helpful as this site. I am more determined now to plan a strategy for both chelation and dietary changes for my son, and probably my youngest daughter too.
