8th grade celebration ideas??

My oldest son is finishing 8th grade this year. We aren’t planning on a graduation for him, but I am wondering about some kind of celebration for him. Do any of you have any ideas for a way to celebrate the ending of 8th grade and transitioning to high school? I thought about just a small gathering with the grandparents & have his favorite meal, maybe some words of affirmation from all the family. Any ideas would be appreciated. I just think that it might be a nice transition for him as he is more than a little boy and not quite a young man.
