I think I have finally massaged our CM education i to a workable plan. The problem is I have no idea how heavy a workload a 7th grader should have. I cannot judge based on the time it takes him to complete his assignments because he spends a lot of time staring at the wall, if you know what I mean. So I would appreciate any input as to whether this is too light (I am pretty sure it isnt too heavy). So here is what we do

family work about 1 1/2 – 2 hours, split up

    Bible

    history

    literature

    geography

    artist

    poetry

    logic

    latin

    hymns

    Independent Work

    Math

    grammar 3x week

    spelling wisdom 2x a week

written narration 1x a week (we are new to this so still workong on lots of oral narrations)

literature, right now this is the Aenid for Children

science, right now he is reading The Weather book 3x a week and An Einstein bio 2x a week

history – reading William Bradford Pilgrim Boy (below his reading level, but good anyway)

personal development 1 day a week, Boyhood and Beyond

I think thats about it. On any given day he has 2 – 4 books he is reading out of, depending on our schedule.

    Does that seem about right?

Here’s a Link to the checklist I have for my 7th grade dd.  The number of days at the top is 10 (I think)…..usually this is what she’s expected to complete in 5 days.  But I wanted to go easy on us over the holidays.

My dd has trouble with procrastination, so it takes her longer to accomplish this checklist. (She also feeds calves morning and evening, taking about 2.5 – 3 hours of her day……but I thought this would be doable and she still finds time to read fun books and time to crochet.  So I really think she could accomplish this much, she just chooses to procrastinate.  That’s why, in January, she’s only 75 days or so into school……and not 90 days in like she ought to be.  Annoys me.  Anyway.)

Hopefully this will give you an idea….and maybe someone will tell me that it’s not enough or that it’s too much — feedback is welcome here! 🙂

Thanks Karen, that is helpful. It looks like we have similar schedules. My list on the above post looks long, but when I print out something for the week it looks more like yours. We just rotate a lot of subjects daily. Funny my ds is going to do the Tiner Chemistry and Mystery of the Periodic Table next year, along with a fun app called Elements. Thanks for your input. Looking forward to what others have to say.

No help here because my oldest is only 5th grade, but I wanted to say thank you Karen for sharing your kids weekly schedule. I’ve wondered how to give my kids a checklist but also give them more responsibility for choosing what to do each day. Right now I give an assigned amount to do each day (math page #, etc), though for my 11yo this year I’ve been giving him a list of readings for the week and letting him choose which to read each day.

But now I’m worrying that I’m giving my kids too much. Lol. My 8&11 yo’s have 3-4 readings every day! Tho theirs are much shorter I’m sure.

Does anyone have a schedule set up for 7th grade? I am planning on switching to Charlotte Mason next year with my son who is a very typical boy if you know what I mean 🙂 I want him to have a great education but not one that eats up all his day so he doesn’t have time to work on relationships and whatever his passion maybe at the moment. Anyone have a schedule that can share?
