I’m starting my first year of SCM and I live in Hawaii. Does anyone know of any living books that we can use that would cover relevant topics? (ocean, volcanoes, rainforests, tropics..)
ServingwithJoyParticipantI think no one has answered because we are all too busy fantasizing about NATURE STUDY IN HAWAII!!!! Come on – does it get any better than THAT????
Okay, now that my jealousy is out of the way, I will conscientiously check our bookshelves and get back to you later about what may be relevant. You can spend that time in BEAUTIFUL HAWAII *sigh*…
missceegeeParticipantJean Craighead George has a series that includes one about tropical rainforest. At http://www.livingbookslibrary.com they did a top 10 about volcanoes and such and maybe one about the sea and animals, too. Smithsonian Oceanic Collection is great.
I want to come! Hawaii is beautiful and I’d love to return to visit with my kids someday.
rosannageislerParticipantPm’d you … two different things …
MLParticipantThanks so much! Don’t be jealous! Imagine trying to teach seasons to a child that knows only “wet” or “dry!!”
Love the Smithsonian Oceanic Collection! And will check out the other link. Any other ideas will be much appreciated!Thank you!
missceegeeParticipantSmithsonian also has a backyard birds collection but that may not be as applicable for you.
RobinPParticipantWe’ve only been to Maui but we loved every minute of it! The birds! We were there in January several years ago and went whale watching. We saw two whales breaching at the same time! Magnificent!
Jennifer SwearingenParticipantOk I know I am WAY late to this conversation but I live in Hawaii too. Are you on O’ahu by chance?
