We are going to start in July after July 4th holiday. I don't want to wait any longer to start or the kids will be really rusty. I am planning on doing 3 months and then break for 2 weeks. My problem is that I know I will have a week long trip I need to make for a medical reason sometime during that time frame and I just learned that my in-laws want to come to visit some time in July. I don't want to put off school, how would you handle this? Just do school lessons, break when we need to and pick up where we left off?
What if your term gets messed up?

I would just start when you want to and take breaks as needed. We have 3 DC who have regular surgeries and medical appts. and we just come back where we left off when we take a break for a few days. So yes just pick up where you left off.

Yep. Just do the next thing. Sometimes you can get the basics in on "crazy" days - math, reading, writing. Other days you just take a break and start again when you can.
