DS will be in 2nd grade in the fall. This year in 1st grade we did “part 1” of american history using books from ATTA and Landmark books. He has learned a lot! However, I have decided that next year I want to use Truthquest AHFYS. The question is, should I do the first level again, which would be repeating some of the same content? Or should I do the 2nd level? I also have a rising 1st grader and 3 preschoolers tagging along. I want my rising 1st grader to get a good intro to american history as well.

I would probably move on.  If you move in a cycle as a family, someone won’t start out with American History so you  may as well just move along now or you’ll get stuck repeating the same thing every other year as your younger kids get older.

The other thing I was thinking about was that if we did ahfys 1 in second grade, 2 in third grade, and 3 in fourth grade then he would be ready for the older kids world history stuff to start in fifth grade and go through that cycle. If I do 2 next year, I want to make it last 1.5 years and switch to 3 in mid third grade and finish it in fourth grade?

Did you cover the all of the time period covered in TQ 1?  If not, you could start wherever you left off and move to year 2 whenever you are ready for it.
