I am finishing up the 2nd year of homeschooling my four children. I was drawn to this method when I first considered homeschooling but I was afraid that I couldn’t do it so I abandoned the idea. But now that I have a few years under my belt I am rethinking my original decision to use the CM method. But I am concerned about starting the method with my soon to be 13 year old and my 11 year old. If it’s not too late to get them going, how do I go about doing so? Thank you,

No, it’s not too late; this will be great! It may be helpful for you to take a look at the ‘Basics’ on the main page on this site. Then click on ‘Getting Started.’ You might also consider Sonya’s book, Planning Your CM Education. Also, Education Is (a free resource) is very helpful. All of this can also be found on the main page.

Angela, this sounds like our situation!

We have a 12YO, 11YO, 8YO, and two 5YOs. We are finishing our 2nd year of homeschooling as well. I too wanted to go CM from the start but felt overwhelmed.

Last year, I used Math on the Level and got away from it this year. All of our children miss it though and we’re going back to it. I feel with that I have a solid grasp on what to do in math, and MOTL is very hands-on, follow the child’s ability/maturation (which for one of ours in particular is necessary in math). We already use and LOVE apologia so I love that SCM recommends this as an option.

And one other thing (besides countless other things) that keeps drawing me back is Miss Mason’s gentle approach to grammar instruction. I have just been so disappointed in everything we’ve tried and just see it taking our children away from wanting to write and speak and share through words, written and spoken. And this is NOT what I want for them.

So, we’re ordering Module 4 for history, Bible, and geography. I actually CANNOT WAIT to receive it and begin planning, seeing what books we have, which ones we need (many I’ve looked up for our 8YO are on the the 4-for-3 promotion right now at Amazon).

Anyway, I’m rambling but I hope you receive some more replies b/c I too am in the same boat, just really starting exclusively CM (though we used a lot of her philosophies and I didn’t even know it) this past year especially.

Best to you as you move forward!
