I'm deciding which scriptures to place in our scripture memory system for this year. I usually go by the SCM guide, but I thought I'd ask if any of you decide in a different way? Just curious. :)
Time to decide what to memorize

We use the Truth and Grace Memory books. I find that they help us keep going with scripture memory. http://www.christianbook.com/truth-and-grace-memory-book-1/9780970524805/pd/0524803

We like the Foundations and Fighter Verses from Children Desiring God.

We are Catholic, and the Catholic Church has specific readings each week (an OT reading, a NT reading, a Gospel passage, and a Psalm). The church has a three-year rotation, so that the entire Bible is covered in mass over three years.
Each week I check the readings for the upcoming Sunday and choose one of the readings that we will hear at mass. We memorize that passage throughout the week, and then it is reinforced because the children hear it at mass on Sunday.
Knowing what readings are upcoming has been so helpful in choosing our passages.
This week: Mark 4:30-32 (The Mustard Seed)

We use the foundations and fighter verses from Children Desiring God too! Plus our children's Sunday school and Wednesday night church curriculum (also Children Desiring God) also has weekly verses to memorize. So we have no shortage of options.

There's also an app for android & iPhones with the weekly memory verse for $2.99 called "Fighter Verses" by Children Desiring God.

Jawgee, is there a link to use for your rotation? Preferably I would like to follow the church calendar and do certain scripture relating to that.
As for Fighter Verses, that looks great too. Hubby and I are Piper fans and this may be an option to consider if the church calendar idea doesn't work for me.
Thanks for your replies!

I get a daily devotional called Magnificat and use that, but this is an excellent site to see the readings for each day:

Just click on the calendar on the right-hand side.

This year I decided to do something differnt and it ties into our character building. I got it from? I don't know where but there is a character quality that we will work on for a week or two and a bible verse that shows how God has that in His word.
Character we'll work on this:Truthfulness vs. deception - Earning future trust by accurately resporting past facts.
In bible/scripture we'll work on memorizing: Ephesians 4:25 (which talks about truthfulness or deception)
I liked the idea and it's simple yet meaningfull.
It will take 2 years if we do one every 2 weeks because there are 49 qualities/bible verses.
Misty
I will keep in mind Jawgee's though that's a great idea. I have the Magnificant so it would be really easy to do.

For those of you who use the foundation or fighter verses from Desiring God...do you buy verse packs for each child? Also, have you used the songs? Thanks so much.

I bought just one verse pack. I love the foundations one as it has pictures on one side. You can also make your own cards minus the pictures at http://www.mcscott.org
We've not used the songs, so I have nothing to share about the songs.

I like doorpost " For Instruction in Rightiousnes". and "The Virtue Guide" We pick a sin and study it. I post the memory verse on the fridge after we memorize it the first day. We study it for the week and how it applies in our life. We then go over that verse every morning till we know it then we move on to the next I try to pick a sin that applies more to our lives for that week. This way we are working on the habit at the same time. The rest sound like really good ideas also. :)

We used the songs two years ago for the fighter verses, and they really helped the children remember the verses. They still remember them by bringing up the songs many times better than the ones we have reviewed without them.
I don't buy the verse pack as I look at http://www.hopeingod.org for the weekly fighter verse, and then we also get verses to memorize from their curriculum. I bookmark the verses in my Bible app and go through them that way though I also like SCMs scripture memory system. My son memorized a hundred verses this year. Our church gives little metal "knights" everytime they memorize 25 verses. When they memorize a hundred, they get their picture next to a life size knight armor. My preschooler memorized about 35 verses this year, and gets stars for me to sew/glue on a bag for every 5 she earns.
