   I would tend to trust the Signet Classics edition or the Penguin Classics edition.

   With books originally written in another language, the translation can make a big difference.  I second the recommendation of the Signet version.

   Thanks everyone, you all are always so helpful. Sounds like I should go with Signet. It's less expensive than the Penguin Classics anyway. :)

   I thought I'd jump into this discussion, even though it's been a few months, because we just started reading Swiss Family Robinson. We read the first part of chapter one from Project Gutenberg, but since my daughters are always leaving their tablets over at their dad's....and I don't have one :-(....and I don't want to keep printing the chapters, I decided to look for it at the library.

   I was very dismayed at the version they have (only one copy!), which is the Chlidren's Classics Everyman's Library edition, published by Alfred A. Knopf. Whereas the Gutenberg Project version has the father telling his sons that, if the Lord wills, they will be saved from the storm, but if not, they should anticipate the joy and blessing of heaven, the Everyman's Library version mentions nothing of this and also leaves out the paragraphs later in the chapter where the family gathers to pray.

   Personally, I strongly prefer a version that is closer to that of the Gutenberg Project as it better suits my family's needs. If you prefer a more secularized version, the one I picked up from the library would probably be a good one for your family.

   Now I just have to find a copy more to my liking at a different library. Or, perhaps I'll beg from the post-Christmas budget and pick up a copy from a resale bookstore....
