Yesterday morning, about 5:10 am our one year old dog was hit by a car(at least we are pretty sure that's what happened). Somehow, I guess I didn't hook her leash on her very well and she mananged to get off the chain and out of the yard. I'd been sick since the previous evening with a stomach bug, so I was exhausted and miserable -- I guess it was a recipe for a mistake. She is currently at the vet, but the prognosis is not great. She has a fractured tail and a lot of nerve manage. We are waiting to see whether or not her bowels will be able to move on thier own.
The puppy was our families gift last Christmas, so if we lose her it will be a sever blow as this Christmas unfolds. Our older son in particular is having a very difficult time and is upset with us for not waking her up so he could see her before my husband rushed her to the vet. While knows that the dogs tail is broken and what we are waiting for at this point, we haven't mentioned the possibility to him that we may yet lose her. He wants to see her, and I am torn, because I don't want him to say he never got to see her one last time should we lose her, and because I know it will be a very emotional ordeal for him regardless because he is already a mess over the fact that she's been hurt.
has anyone delt with this kind of thing? My husband figured that he would take our cat in to be neutered as long as he had to drive all the way to the vet, so he is picking up the cat today. The boys both want to go along, I'm just not sure if that's a good idea or not.
