    HI,

I want to use Outdoor Secrets and the companion book this fall. Unfortunately, my library has very few of the living books suggested in the resource list. We have an awful library. So, I am looking to buy some of them. Is there anyone who has used Outdoor Secrets that can tell me what books are absolute must haves?

I should say that I already own the books needed for the entire study, Favorite Poems Old and New and The Handbook of Nature Study.

    Thanks!

After checking online, it seems my library has only 2 of the books suggested. Frown

They have Flower Garden and Crinkleroot’s Guide to Knowing the Trees.

I am using OS this year too and I also don’t have access to a good library. First I looked through my books and a family member’s who homeschools to see what books I already had on the subjects or could easily borrow. Even if they weren’t the exact book recommended I didn’t worry as long as they cover the subject. Also, every library will probably have something on pollination or wasps for instance.

Then once I knew what my gaps were I went on Amazon and ordered used or inexpensively the remaining titles I needed to fill in. I didn’t mind spending a little bit since I trusted that the SCM recommended books were probably good ones and I plan to re-use OS again in 2 or 3 years with my younger set.

Hope this helps and you are able to find good selections for your family!

Im in the midst of purchasing a few every pay day.  On amazon, the majority of them are very well priced.  Ive also used paperbackswap.com.

Ok, looks like I need to start buying these. Has anyone had luck buying books off Ebay? I know the prices on Amazon and pretty good but I have been selling curriculum in order to purchase new books and I need to pay with paypal. Amazon does not take paypal but Ebay does.

I haven’t sorted this out yet. I’m going to have to buy these books as well. Approximately how many books is that?

abindinginhim, prices are often much better on Amazon.com.  You can move your Paypal money into your bank account in a couple of days, we do that often.  I just paid for my ds’s lab science supplies with Paypal money that I moved into our ING account and then paid for the supplies.
