Christmas – Black Friday… It’s all around the corner.  I have a Ninja that is about a 1 1/2 years old.  It’s been dropped, the lid don’t stay on, the piture is cracked all over and leaks, and well I HATE the blades cause they are a pain to clean, YET they do chop ice and such without a hitch.

I would ‘love’ a Vitamixer, but let’s be serious I don’t have that kind of money and no sale will get me one.  I know that there will be deals on blenders from low end to high end, department store to online in the next few weeks.  I know Vitamixer is the one to get, but I can not get one.  That said what blender do you have and LOVE that was not $500?

I am looking to spend maybe $200-$350, with my Christmas money and what my dh is willing to put from our house account toward a blender.  I will be honest I use my blender daily, and by that I mean more than once a day and for more than one smoothie a day.  I also use it to grind oats, make pudding and ice cream and I blend a LOT, and when I say a LOT I mean a lot of ice for frappa’s on a weekly basis.

What are your suggestions.  What do you have and how long have you had it?  Thanks for your help, my dh is actually watching craigslist for me also, and ebay be we need to know what is good and what is just another dud.

    Misty,

Vitamix does offer certified reconditioned models. There are a few that are within your price range. You can check them out here:

We have had a Vitamix for years and love it. We use it everyday.

    I hope this helps!

I have a refurbished Vitamix and it is 3 years old and still going strong. My mom and sisters have refurbished ones also and none of us have had any problems. My mom uses hers every single day. I’m pretty sure they come with a warranty also.

I have used both a Vitamix (at other’s homes) and a Blendtec (which I own). I LOVE my Blendtec. It is super easy to clean, chops ice, makes ice cream, nut butter, you name it. I bought it at Costco for ~ $325. One other option. It replaced my Kitchen Aid and I’ve not missed that beast!

I have a Blendtec as well and really love it.  If you buy it from a certified reseller they have a 7-year warranty (double check that to make sure I’m not having an old-person-brain moment).

I have a new ninja, all the fancy stuff with you can have for $50. We’ve used maybe twice. We just bought a vitamix and wont be needing the ninja any longer 🙂

We just bought a Ninja and are pleased with it.  I had always said when we needed to replace the Kitchenaid we’d get a Vitamix but when the time came I just couldn’t put up with the price.  Thought the Ninja reviews and price were worth the risk.  We use it about 5 times a week and am pleased enough.  My husband just told me about a blender that got great reviews for about $200 and so I was going to do more research on that to replace the Ninja when that time comes.  He isn’t reachable today but I’ll post that brand when I get in touch with him again.  I guess that isn’t much help now, huh? 🙂

For as often as you use a blender, you REALLY would be SO happy to purchase a Vitamix or Blendtec. I honestly can not believe how I survived without my Vitamix…..and my Mom feels the same way about her Blentec ;). Hope you can find one of these in your price range. Imho, when a blender is one of the main appliances you use in your home daily, then a good one is worth every penny!

I got a Breville about a year ago. It was around $300 in Canada; most likely it would be around the $250 mark in the U.S. It won out for me over a few others because of the strong warranty, and because of the “smoothie” feature which is a cycle that combines pulse and blend to prevent food from getting trapped under the blades during blending and pureeing. I use it primarily for breakfast smoothies and pureed vegetable soups. I SO wanted a Vitamix but like many others couldn’t swallow the price; but now I don’t care – I’ve never had a blender create such a smooth puree.

Misty – just looking at your OP; thought I should mention, as thrilled as I am with my Breville, I’ve never done ice cream or pudding. (but if you give me a recipe I would happily try it for you, LOL!)

One of my friends bought a Montel Williams blender instead of hte Ninja and the Vitamix. I was considering getting one, too, since the Vitamixes are so expensive. She says her Montel Williams blender does evrything a vitamix does – blends the WHOLE tomato into juice, etc.

I’d love to hear more about blenders you all have and love, since I’m wanting one — mainly for “grinding” my own rice flour and for making smoothies and for processing tomatoes.

I just looked at the Blendtec website and saw they have a mixer/blender duo that looks simlar to the Bosch that I had my eye on (but not my wallet! *L*). Anyone have any thoughts on that product? I’m really wanting to grind my own grains (I saw they have a grain mill, too, but I am opposed to buying appliances that only do one thing.).

We love our Vitamix!  Best purchase we have made.  We had a Blendtec and returend it right away.  We have had our Vitamix for 2 years and we use it lots (2-3x/day) and it is going strong.  We use it for everything from smoothies, soups, thick puddings, grains really anthing and everything I thow at it, it handles it! I got the refurbished one and have no doubt it will keep running for a long long time.  The warranty on the Vitamix is awesome also.  Had some weird cracking on the jar and they sent me a replacement no questions asked within a week.  I also had a bobble on drive piece and contacted them and they sent me a new one right away.  Vitamix gets my vote.

I also h ave a Blendtec, which I have owned for about a year and a half, and I’ve never regretted it! I prefer the Blendtec over the Vitamix because it has more pre-programmed options for blending (Smoothies, Sauces/Gravy, Milkshake, Batter, etc.) I like that I can push a button and walk away and not have to mess with it. Sometimes, I’ll have to stop and scrape down the sides or something, but it’s still one of the best purchases I’ve ever made!

I bought a Vitamix and sold it back because I didn’t think it did much more then my Kitchen Aid (maybe it is a really good one?) apart from making the warm soups which my kids do not like anyway (they prefer chunky soups). I am thinking to get the Blendtec because it looks as though you do not need an extra piece to grind flours(as you would w/the Vitamix).

    am I right on this?

I’ve ground grains in my Blendtec – rice, wheat, flax, etc.  I also make nut butters.  It works fantastically, but does leave the container a little scratchy looking.  In no way does it affect the performance or cleanability.
