We will be joining our extended family at the beach in a few weeks. There will be different aged children and I’m looking for movie recommendations that are appropriate for the whole family. I think the older boys may be getting a little tired of animated movies, but I don’t want anything inappropriate for the young ones. Something the adults can enjoy as well. The ages of children are 12, 10, 8, 6, 5, 3, 2.

    Ideas.

Frozen is the latest rage, not my favorite, but my teens as well as youngers liked it.

I’m not into animated movies. I liked finding Nemo and Lion King and that’s about it.

Just wanted to give the heads that both The Princess Bride and Fly Away Home have language.  Just one word in each, I believe – but not something you want little ones (or big ones!) repeating.  They are easily muted for the one little part.  However – both are great movies, so preview, and know where the one instance that you would need to mute in each movie is.  🙂

The Princess Bride is my all-time fav!  The Rodents of Unusual Size in the forest scene would definitely scare my girls (ages 9,8,6,4)! So, you ought to be prepared for that.

    Love Princess Bride!

I agree w/ The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry. We loved it so much we bought a couple to hand out! Awesome movie!

Monster’s University is cute and funny if you haven’t seen it. Funny for adults too!  Only a couple times(quickly) do they show a set of monsters as scary. My boys watched the first one when they were probably 6 and 4, and it didn’t seem to bother them at all. But some kids are more sensitive.

Swiss Family Robison is a favorite family movie in our house. We also love the Sound of Music, but it is quite long. My kids are 11 years to 2.

I have seen and love Nanny McPhee, Princess Diaries, Love Bug, Parent Trap (even the old one has cocktails, smoking like the old movies, and a little suduction going on from the girlfriend), The Shaggy Dog (old version) the newer version is cute but crass sometimes.

I like Because of Winn Dixie but if I remember correctly it was sad?? Or am I mistaken? I also like National Velvet as well as Lady and the Tramp.

    Good choices!
