Ladies our church has a lending library and I brought home just a movie I saw and thought that looks good called “Love’s Christmas Journey”.  My kids were like really mom could we please pick something else (mind you the oldest 5 all boys).  But I insisted and put it in.  15 minutes later all is quiet and they are totally loving it.

So where do I find the list of Janette Oke books from the Love Comes Softly Series.  We feel like we’ve missed so much, want to know what happens next and even the kids were willing for more. :0)

Please help while I have them in the saddle!  Misty

The storylines for the movies were changed significantly. I haven’t seen all the movies for that reason. The books are very good. I read the first one when I was close to 12 or so and have re-read the series many times since.

The movies are very nicely done, but I agree with bethanna about the changes to the storylines. For that reason, you might treat them as we often do with literature: no movie until you have read the book.

Her other books/series are really good too. Seasons of the Heart series is about a boy named Joshua growing up on his family’s farm.

Yes, Janette Oke’s books are wonderful. I started reading them probably more than 20 years ago (ouch!) and I still have almost all of them and every once in awhile go back and re-read them. They are like visiting old friends 🙂 I was disappointed with the movies; they are well done, but the story lines are changed, some significantly, and that always bugs me 🙂 I just watched Masterpiece Theater’s Great Expectations on Netflix, and while the main storyline is there, the character of Biddie (Pip’s childhood friend and sister’s caregiver) was entirely missing! While we were reading GE aloud, we were all cheering for Pip to realize what a gem Biddie was and he should just forget about Estella and stay with Joe and be a blacksmith. Would have saved himself a lot of trouble:)
