OK, I'm fretting again. Ds8 had preschool; dd has not. I will be starting kindergarten with her at the first of June. We have done very little (read almost nothing) formal the past two years, but she has picked up a LOT through osmosis. She can say her numbers through 199 with prompts if needed; she can form almost all uppercase letters, including the letters in her name, although the size is inconsistent. She can form almost all the numbers, again very large or inconsistent in size. She recognizes some simple words. I think she recognizes number words, but I'm not sure. Yet when it comes to sitting at the table for 5 minutes and following directions, I'm not sure how well she'll do. I sat down and figured out a plan for the first week (4 days). Does this sound like how to start?
Daily: Bible story, picture books
Monday and Tuesday: Tell her which letters to write. Make a note of the ones we really need to work on. (I know she can't make K, but others I'm not sure about). Begin building -at word family.
Wednesday and Thursday: seasonal poetry. Have her write basic numbers. Make a note of what we need to work on. Use number tiles to put in order (Wed); show her a 100 chart and have her name the numbers. How high can we get? (Thurs).
She will be sitting in with ds for Character study and can sit in with him on anything else she wants.
TIA,
Karen
