My older ones will be 4 and 6 in a few months.  CM encouraged reading straight from the Bible, right?  Not Bible storybooks because they are not living books like the Bible.  How exactly should I do this?  Read straight through, a short passage a day?  That would take forever to get through, so I wonder if I should skip around so they get a little taste of the different parts of the Bible?  As far as storybooks we do have 101 Favorite Stories from the Bible.  What do you all suggest?  Thanks!

My little ones are 4 and 5 yo. I have several good children’s Bibles, and we are reading through each one. Right now we are on The Jesus Storybook Bible. Next I think we are going to use the one I got in the Yesterdays Classics package called The Nursery Book of Bible Stories by Amy Steedman. I plan on starting my 5yo on simple and short straight-from-the-Bible stories as part of her reading instruction this year.

I do Children’s Bibles with that age.  There are plenty of well written ones out there…the one you linked to looks like a good choice.  Now that I have some older DC, they listen in on the older DC’s readings and join in with memory verses…not to mention readings during church services and family devotions.

We do both. One thing that was really helpful for us when reading directly from the Bible with little ones is Penny Gardner’s The Storied Scriptures lists. She has listed out verse sections that tell stories so we can read those with our little ones as a starting place. http://www.schoolofabraham.com/html/storiedscriptures.htm#Old Testament

We read straight from the bible, memorize scripture using Sonya’s scripture memory system, and practice one hymn/song at a time until learned. You would be suprised what small children can comprehend. Just keep it in small bit sized pieces. It is a beautiful story that is not meant to be completed in a short period of time. It’s a marathon, not a race. Use your judegement for your own family though….that is the beauty of homeschool. :)))

We also do one lesson per week from Bible Study Guides for All Ages, Beginner Level just because we are new Christians and I am trying to learn all the bible stories as well along side my child. 🙂

Hope you find what makes your family happy. 🙂
