   Curious as to why? Do you believe it's necessary or just a plus?

   I definitely do not think it is "necessary", but I use one when I can because I personally feel weak in history, so it gives me a framework upon which to hang other books, ideas, etc.  I can (and have) done without at times, but it just makes me feel more confident when I have one because of my own insecurities.

   I don't use one extensively, but like to always have one around for topics that we're not reading another living book on but I want to touch on.  :)Gina
