By following the links someone posted on the reading assessment post, I found this:
I think ds8 may fit this. He has never liked to write. Lately it's all I can do to get him to write two words of his copywork. He will not use his free hand to hold the paper. He wants to prop his chin on his free hand or sit with his free arm twisted around his body. If a math worksheet has a lot of space between problems, I may get huge numbers, small numbers, or decent sized numbers. And most of it will be sloppy.
Other than play dough, what can I do to help him in this area? I've already decided to postpone cursive until midway through third grade or even fourth grade, but I don't want to put off spelling indefinitely. (I was hoping to start in fourth, per the curriculum guide). We're already doing a lot orally, and I'll type anything he asks me to (narrations and stories, few though they may be). I just don't see how I can postpone copying and he still have an opportunity to practice.
