My dd10 has had the hardest time learning her multiplication tables.  We really have tried everything, drill, songs, writing, you name it!  I was at a school supply store the other day and found Learning Wrap Ups, multiplication practice keys.  The price was $10 but I took a risk and I want to report that they work amazingly!!  I wanted to share in case anyone else has the same issue and wants to try them out.  Here they are on Amazon:

They have them available for division, addition and subtraction as well.

Heather – What exactly is it?  How do they work?

Well, simply enough, it’s a string that you wrap around the key.  For example on the times 2 key:  You put the string in the 2 groove on one side (2 x 2) and cross the string over to where the 4 groove is on the other side of the key since 2×2=4.  You do all of the multiplication tables wrapping the string around the key according to what you believe the answer is and then when you flip over the key, you can see if your string aligns with the pre-raised pattern on the back.  If it aligns, then you got them all right!

I am amazed at how such a simple thing has worked so well!

Thanks for sharing, Heather! That may be just the ticket with my 8yo – he has a hard time drilling those times tables.

Yay, so glad it can help some others!  They also have them for addition, subtraction and division.  Going to get the addition one for my younger ones this weekend!  Smile

I was looking at these and it looks like Rainbow Resource has the best price for the set of 5 (add/sub/mul/div/frac) – you can get the set there without the cd’s. I didn’t compare to getting them from Amazon with their free shipping, but RR still has the free shipping for $50, so if there was something else you needed, that may be the best bet. Just thought I’d pass it along.
