I stumbled upon a terrific idea of being penpals with your kids and made one of these for my dd11 and ds8. I had some pretty journals with pens lying around and simply printed the labels and attached them. I wrote the welcome letter and the journals are lying on the kids pillows waiting to be discovered.
I thought some of my friends here might like the idea, too.

I do something like this with my granddaughters other grandmother. Since she lives on the other side of the state and we are only there every two months or so, I thought this would be a neat way for them to keep in touch. Right now E draws a pic or ten or narrates a little story and snds it to her GK. Grammy K writes a little note, draws a pic, or adds stickers about their adventures. E loves mailing and receiving this package.

My kids were thrilled with the journals! Both wrote back and I found them on my pillow when I went to bed. I think this will become a treasure in our home. And it doesn't hurt to sneak in some writing practice, too.
