I just read the best article in my state homeschool association's newsletter, and it turns out it's a blog post from a lovely site called http://www.handsfreemama.com. ; I highly recommend reading it, hugging all your children, and leaving the phone on the desk for the day. :-) I'm giving it to my dh, too.

I read this a while back, and it was a real wake-up call! I'm not one to run to pick up the phone and am not super into all the technology anyway, but it was still a huge reminder to treasure every moment with my children!

Great article! I rarely use a phone (my cell is an ancient Star Trek style flip phone w/emergency minutes:) But the computer at home is always a challenge. Thanks for the reminder:) Gina
A friend had me read this about a month ago. It impacted me...I still think about it a lot.

Read it. Was slayed by it. I will be working on unplugging so much more. Tomorrow is no electronics while the kids are awake day and maybe even after. No iPhone, ipad, computer or tv. I'm shutting it all down.
My to-do list for tomorrw: blow bubbles, go swimming, eat ice cream, play a board/card game, enjoy nature. No email, co-op, planning, pinterest, forum. Nothing. I MUST do this and much more often.

Thanks for your honesty, Christie. I was touched and planned to share w/hubby, but felt a bit off the hook since I don't carry any devices. But lately ds has enjoyed informing me that I'm on the computer 'all the time' and why can't he have more electronic time? I think sometimes I feel that I'm doing so much w/housework, schoolwork, etc. that if I'm not imminently needed it's o.k. to have my time on here. But what other things am I missing? And what example am I setting? Even if kids are busy doing school or otherwise occupied, I could be reading or accomplishing something that wouldn't take my time later when we could be doing something together. Starting to ramble...but thanks all for sharing! Gina
My check-in report on this...
Today was fabulous! We swam all morning and played together. Came home, played and visited friends (w/o devices). Played a board game, ate ice cream. Had dinner. Stories and sweet snuggles with the little ones. Just now turned on the computer for a few minutes. I did make 1 call on my phone at 2 pm and had to text hubby in the evening. I'm changing some settings on my iPhone and making it less intrusive. If not successful, I plan to get rid of it. The sweet moments of today are worth so much more. So, so much more.
