   Does anyone use these kind of lists as a spelling list for a horrible speller?  I have been using All About Spelling, and I do like it, yet I still feel like he's forgetting all the stuff he's learning, all the rules, when he actually writes on his own.  This particular son has dysgraphia/dyslexic tendancies.  I wonder if doing 5 sight words a week, or mastering small groups would help more or less.  If he can at least get the basic words like on the above linked list...

   Jennifer, I uses the list for different reasons. For my beginner reader, I am using these words on flashcards for her. For my older ones I am using these words for review spelling. I give the older 5 a day to review and spell. If they struggle with a word I take note of that particular one and keep it as one of the five spelling words until mastered. They also have a homemade lapbook titled "Spelling Helper" that they record their confusing words in and they keep it with them during written narrations for reference. I believe it has helped them become more thoughtful of spelling right.

   I use the list in combination with Spelling Wisdom. And with my beginner reader it is a supplement with her reading program. I tried almost every spelling program but my homemade list version is working best. :)

   I'm going to give your idea a try.  I also looked up some fun spelling activities online and found some I think my son will enjoy to practice his words.  He's excited to try spelling Battleship.  Yes, just like the game, but with grid paper and sinking words instead of ships.  Cool.
