I am very Type A by nature. If I don’t operate in my natural TYPE A-ness then I swing the other direction and am plain old lazy. So, I love the philosophy of not doing anything structured until age 6 with CM, but if I don’t have something to follow and hold me accountable I will get lazy, especially since I don’t know what I am doing quite yet. I have an almost 4 year old and I want to find a preschool curriculum that is very close to CM methods and that will transition well into using SCM for grade 1.
I am looking into MFW, Sonlight, Before Five in a Row for preschool. Any others? Or have you used any of these and find they transition well into structured CM for grade 1?
Thanks!
jill smithParticipantI love Five in a row. Great books and kids learn so much form reading them 5 days in a row.
curlywhirlyParticipantBeforeFIAR is good.
Also check out the book The Three Rs by Ruth Beechick. It will give you stuff to do but is very gentle for the littlest ones.
TailorMadeParticipantI’d suggest that any of the following would work well in your situation.

I used the book list for the FIAR character lessons for our Friday naptime book after park days. We didn’t go into all of the activities provided in the FIAR curriculum. We had too many other things going on for me to do all of the extras and my kids didn’t like having the same book read over and over unless it was a favorite. Then, they just wanted the book and onto life.
Beechick’s 3Rs books have some helpful hints. They are based on readiness. If you find that the suggestions bring on tears, or frustration, it’s not time! It won’t mean you are wasting time, it will mean that enjoying the time simply will mean a better use of time later down the road.
petitemomParticipantI really like MFW for K and 1st grade.
bethannaParticipantI think Heart of Dakota has a preschool program. Winter Promise too.
Hope to LearnParticipantWe enjoyed Hubbard’s Cupboard 4s Joyful Hearts curriculum and it’s free.

It has suggested books to read, reading readiness skills, science (e.g., nature walks), verses to memorize, and a character trait to focus on. You can pick what you want to do from it, as you do not have to complete it all. We enjoyed it and felt it helped me transition to some of the CM ideas.
