So my 5th grader came to me in the middle of reading the 1st chapter today wondering if I’d read it.  Surprised  Well, that’s never good coming from a more-mature-than-most-of-her-peers child…  LOL  So I asked her why, and she was worried about all the evolution/Big Bang stuff that was in there.  Wow!  She was worried about what would influence her thinking!  Very cool!  However….

Should I be skipping certain chapters?  Reviewing the book first?  Scrapping the book???  I just don’t have time to preread everything between the 4 kids, so could use some guidance here.

    Thanks!

She seems to be OK with it, otherwise.  She was just in chapter 1 and saw all the evolution/Big bang stuff and came to me wondering if she was supposed to read it.  Hopefully there is nothing else and he sticks to geography???

I have used this to read aloud to my children when it relates to the country we are studying. I did skim through it and placed some post it notes on areas to skip reading like evolution and we may go to the moon…some day. As a read aloud, I can modify and skip as I go, although I have not had to do it much. Each chapter is about a country or group of countries so I have gone through with post it tabs to mark off all countries and colour coded by continent. So I pick it up here and there to read wherever it applies to the geographic area we are learning about.

Thanks for that feedback.  I think I will scrap it for now.  She is doing Ann Voskamp’s Explore Geography Series, and she seems to like that one.  She is doing it on her own, as well.  She will be happy to know her load just got lighter.  LOL
