It did all get resolved, between paypal and my bank, without much needed from us. It is still something I would rather not have to go through again. I know that it was no one who 'scamed' us, by us buying something wrong. I suppose it could have been a password issue of some kind or some kind of bug on my computer. Im pretty positive I didnt click any email links. I know many, many people Who have not had any problems, but I am just a little weary now.

For pay pal I use a mix of caps, small letters, and numbers it is quite complex and I have so far not had any trouble. I always log into Pay Pal myself and never through a link in an email. I have been using it for years and so far no issues though of course it can happen with any kind of online transaction - the hackers are getting clever and sometimes we are not clever enough. I still trust pay pal though. Kim, hope the kiddies feel better soon - slap happy is good now and then! Linda

So Doug, could you give us an example of your password so we know what they should look like? ;D lol

(I hope you all see this as a joke. I've got a houseful of sick kids and I'm a bit slap-happy at the moment that they're all asleep.)

Kim

ps. I did really appreciate your thoughtful response, Doug. We all need someone in the know in our lives.

Hey Doug, what is the name of the password program you use? Would that protect someone when using PayPal?

Most problems like that are not directly due to any flaw in PayPal. It's usually from using a password that is too simple to guess, using the same password on every site and bad guys find a way to break into the passwords on one of those sites, getting tricked into entering your password somewhere that isn't really PayPal by a very convincing e-mail from bad guys, or having your PC infected with something that gathers your passwords. All of those things can happen with any banking site, not just PayPal.

PayPal is safe but you should use a somewhat long, hard to guess password that is only used for PayPal. And never click on a link to PayPal or any banking site in an e-mail, no matter what the message claims. Instead, open your web browser and go directly to the site and log into your account. If there really are any important messages they will let you know there.

This has been a public service announcement.

Wow - I hadn't heard of Paypal troubles. Did you realize it by looking at your bank account?

Thank you for sharing with us. It's a bummer, because it is so convenient.

Thank you all for your suggestions and tips. I will check them out!

We also have had problems with paypal similar to "mom". Makes you wonder how frequently something like that happens. I've always required payment by bank check.

We do not use paypal anymore. Someone hacked into our bank acct through paypal. It eventually was straightened out, but we no longer trust it. Just thought I would chime in with my experience.

I've too used homeschoolclassifieds with good results. I've also used vegswap at vegsource. You also might want to check your most local craigslist. I've sold and shipped from craigslist before. I agree with the using Paypal and choosing the purchase of goods button.

I have purchased several things on homeschoolclassifieds.com like Gina posted about. I have never had a problem. If you are worried I would suggest doing it all by paypal. This way you are sure to get your money without having to wait for the mail. Just a thing I like to use to make the transaction simple and easy. It goes right into your bank account. :) Blessings.
