I thought it seemed complicated when I first looked at it. But once I sat down and put it together I realized it's very simple and effective! We do as Jawgee....I use diffrerent colored index cards for different subjects. :)Gina

Start with one verse! After you learn it, move it back to a different slot (even/odd, day of the week, day of the month) so that you can review it periodically so that everyone remembers it.

We do one verse every week. We started about 8 months ago, so we have all of our slots filled now.

We use our Scripture Memory Box for poetry, historical speeches, etc., that the kids memorize, too.

We do the same - except I don't move the verse until everyone (School aged) knows it.

Ok -- Basically you have a pace for daily, odd and even days, each day of the week and then the numbers 1-31 (I'm just getting started on ours and we have got that many verses in there yet.)

So -- you pick a verse for the week -- put it in the "daily" slot and work on learning that verse every day for the week. The following week, pick a new verse and move your first verse to the "even" slot. Now daily you will work on the new verse and review your previous verse every second day. The third week, pick another new verse, move your other verse back to odd. Now you are doing the new verse daily, and reviewing one of the other verses daily (one on odd days, one on even days). By now you are pretty good with them, so on week four, move everything back one slot. So you are now reviewing the first verse you learned only once a week (like Mondays). The fifth week you will have a new verse in daily, the fourth verse moves back to where the second verse was, and the second week's verse is moved to a day of the week slot. Around week 11 you will have to move that first verse to a number slot (which corresponds with the date) and will just review it monthly. Basically you end up learning one new verse and reviewing 3 others each day.

So today is Tuesday the 31: We would work on learning the verse in "daily", review the verses in "odd", "Tuesday" and "31" .

How's that -- clear as mud?

No, you don't have to have others in the slots. Start with one. When you know it, move it back and start another. Keep going and it'll surprise you how quickly you get that box filled! This system really works.

For some reason I am having a hard time grasping the understanding of the scripture memory system. Am I suppose to already have scriptures memorized to go into the other slots? Because our family is starting fresh. Do we begin with one scripture in the daily and move it each day until all the slots are filled? I'm really confused, please help.
