Queen Homeschool publishes a book called The Nature Study Idea Book. It is a fantastic resource for sparking wonderfully purposeful nature study, from a Christian perspective. That plus Comstock, a sketchbook, colored pencils (my girls love to sketch with a pencil and bring along watercolor pencils then use the water at home to finish their sketches), a little tote, maybe a magnifying glass, enthusiasm and you're all set. :)

I have 4 children, 10, 8, 7, and 5. All enjoyed Outdoor Secrets from SCM this year. I also purchased the companion pdf for additional activities. We loved it!

My youngers use a aketch book, just like my older kids. I like that it will give automatic support while drawing. ;) Another beginning resource might be the Take a Walk with series by Jane Kirkland. We were recently gifted these and I LOVE them. =) A basic resource aimed to the children. It is engaging and interesting, plus contains places for their notes and observations.

This is our fifth year of homeschooling and we are transitioning to CM for the summer and next year.

I have three young boys, 10, 7 and 5 and am looking to begin a nature study with them.

Can anyone give some good ideas of where to begin with it all? Anything in the way of materials needed would be helpful too. I have the Handbook of Nature already so that will be a plus!

I did not know if a binder or sketchbook would be easier at this point?

Thanks for your thoughts!
Ann-Marie
