My understanding is the ads are only during the "screen saver", not in the books, and that they are all appropriate ads.

I don't know how easy it would be to accidently buy something with the ads (ie, having a child buy something) - I have a regular Kindle.

That said, I have heard somewhere that you can pay the difference between the Kindle with offers and the Kindle without and get them removed.

I don't have a Kindle, but i've seen posts about this in other places. It is my understanding that the advertisements are not inappropriate, but I would check them out myself to make sure if I were you.

We have 3 ten year olds, and their grandfather purchased Kindle's with the special offers for them for Christmas. Just came in the mail a couple days ago. We're considering exchanging them for the devices without special offers to get around having advertising on them. We love books, hate advertising! I guess my concern is not knowing what the ads will pertain to, not having that control.

Any advice on this?
