I began with AO and made some switches and I'm very comfortable with SCM as my framework, adding in books as need be or as we choose. You'll see from the below threads how far I've come in my perspective.

I do know Michelle (bookworm) used AO for a few years before changing to SCM.  Maybe she can pipe in and give some experience of using both for the long term.  What works well for one family may not work as well for another.  Also, neither is an "all or nothing" program.  Pick and choose if you need to; we do.  

I'm looking for some testimonials here. :) I am a part of some AO groups and have noticed that every fews weeks someone pipes in just to share their positive impression of the AO curriculum - particularly history. They often times exclaim that after following it for a good while they've realized the beauty of how it's all put together. They sing the praises of the book selections and timing of each resource, really encouraging newbies to stick it out for some years to see how beautifully it's all woven together. 

While I do enjoy many aspects of the AO curriculum (and plan to implement) I'm excited to do SCM's History Modules. It makes great sense to me to be able to teach as many children together as possible. (I have heard mothers of larger families say that it becomes dizzying to keep each child going in their particular year with history). The SCM History Module handbooks seem great too - all those lessons planned out so you can stay on track. Also, having the Bible readings, history and geography all along side one another is a big plus!

So while I'm feeling hopeful that the SCM History Modules will be a rich resource for my family, I sure would like to hear from some other families that have used them for a while. I've searched and read here at the forum but perhaps there are some threads that I've missed that share impressions of the SCM History Modules in more detail? Has anyone out there used the SCM History Modules for quite some time?? I'd enjoy hearing any feedback!
