The pink cover version was reproduced from the original book pages. The newer ones have attractive covers but appear to be the text from the Ambleside Online website because it has the numerous typos from that hand-typed version.

I have not found the original difficult to read. If you think about it, it is no more difficult to read than many of the literary works that we expect our children to read in a CM education. They are certainly easier to read and understand than Shakespeare or the KJV. That being said, there are some terms, innuendos, and elements that are less obvious to us because the language has changed slightly and because British and American English differ - and have for over three centuries. So, I would say that if you feel comfortable reading literature from the nineteenth century, then you would be fine with the originals. I got my copies online at AO.

Hi all! I know there are other threads similar to this one out there, but I am still unsure which edition of Charlotte Mason's series to purchase. I know the are the pink covers (1989 or so) and the more recent. Is there much of a difference, if any, between these two? I have also seen some discuss the modern paraphrase, and I am undecided as to whether this would be a better option. Is the original really that difficult to read, or is it just a matter of preference? Thanks in advance!
