I like it. I can speed it up and do more if we want and feel happy, or I can do the one lesson that is scheduled for the day and still be happy. It is not labor intensive for me, and yet, we are all learning and enjoying it together. My dds are 12 and 10 - and they are fun. I hear them acting out the stories and topics we've read, they can tell you where most of the countries in Africa are, and know a lot about Egypt. I am happy with this curriculum in ways that I have never been before. I get to to choose what I say as the teacher - the main points are there to follow - but I can choose the best way to present it to my family. I LOVE that. I also have enough experience now to know that it is enough, and be happy to add and enrich as we go instead of getting behind in checking off my checklist. For the price, the time involved, and the less-stress stucture, I know that my kids are getting a far better education than they did in PS.

I do find things to add to the topics, but that is because we love history here and have lots of resources.

I don't know that any additions are actually necessary, unless we are talking major high school credits for transcripts used in college applications.

Thanks for the reply - Our library doesn't have ANY (gasp!) of the Burrell Books - thought I would try to "fill in the gap" with Book 1 - if anyone was willing to part with it!

I REALLY APPRECIATE you posting this schedule! At least now I have an idea what I need! (I haven't ordered the Genesis-Deut. book yet). I take it that you have been using SCM at least for a bit..... How do you/your kids like it? Have you done Module 1 of Hist/Geog/Bible?

Any advise or input would be GREAT!

Really, Jen, not having the Oxford for the first module is FINE! I have it, and I also went to the library. The books there were every bit as good (or better information -wise) than the Oxford. (I am keeping it for the Greek and Roman ones).

Here is the Module and Oxford schedule:

Module 1 Oxford

Lesson 9 The first settlers

Lesson 14/15 Houses and everyday life

Lesson 20 Before the pyramids

Lesson 25 Building temples and pyramids

Lesson 45 The oldest ship in the world (the royal ship of Cheops)

Lesson 50 Cleopatra’s needle (obelisks)

Lesson 55 Mummies and tombs

Lesson 107 Akhenaten and religion

Lesson 124 Tutankhamen’s tomb

Lesson 129 The lost toy cupboard

Lesson 124 The Disappearing Queen (Heterpheres, wife of Sneferu and mother of Cheops)

Lesson 139 Paper, ink, hieroglyphics

You could just cover these topics with library books and then use the Oxford books for Mod 2 & 3.

I, like a previous poster, was wondering if anyone out there had a copy of this book that they would be willing to sell - I have easily found the Book 2 (Greeks) and Book 3 (Romans) of this series, but am NOT WILLING to pay and arm/let or small child for the Book Number 1 - A First Ancient History: On the Threshold of History by Roy Burrell

This is Book 1 in the Series by Roy Burrell. If you don't have this, but would be willing to sell the Oxford First Ancient History for a decent price - I may end up going that route.

Thanks for your consideration! :o)

Blessings,

Jen
